How to make a Facebook account private or Public?

When you post on a Facebook profile, you want to protect your privacy or you want to change the setting from public to private so that whatever you share, can be viewed by only your friends who you trust.

Changing the privacy setting is different for every user. It depends on whether you are using Facebook on your mobile, desktop, or Facebook app.

You can Change Privacy Settings by following the methods mentioned below.

  • On a Desktop browser:

  1. Open Facebook in a web browser on your desktop and log in.

  2. Tap on the download arrow on the top right to see the Account Menu.

  3. Tap on Settings and Privacy.

  4. Click Settings.

  5. On the Settings Page, you will find the Privacy Section. A few additional can also be found in the Profile and Tagging Section.

  • On a Mobile browser:

  1. Open the Facebook Webpage in your browser on your mobile and log in.

  2. Click on the “three-line menu.”

  3. Scroll down and click on Settings.

  4. Click and then complete the Privacy Checkup for finding the most important privacy settings.

  • On the Mobile App:

  1. Start running your Facebook App.

  2. Click on the three-line menu at the bottom right.

  3. Scroll down and click on Settings and Privacy.

  4. Tap Settings.

  5. Click and then complete the Privacy Checkup.

Few Privacy Settings to change on Facebook:

  • Who can see your post:

Many users want to publish their posts publicly but if you want privacy and don’t want to make your post public then to control this go to the browser “Settings” page and then click “Privacy.” In the “Your Activity Section” find “Who can see your future post.” Click “Edit” and change it.

  • Make your Friend list private:

Your friend list can be seen by anyone, to make it hidden go to the browser's “Settings” page, then tap “Privacy.” In the “ How people find and contact you” Section, "find who can see your friend list.” And click “Edit.”

  • Choose Who can post on your timeline:

If you don’t want anyone except your friends to post on your timeline you can be able to manage it by going to the browser's “Settings” page, and then tap “Profile and Tagging.” In the “Profile” Section, find “Who can post on your profile.” And click “Friends.” Change it to “Only Me.”

  • Remove yourself from search engines:

If you don’t want your Facebook profile to be visible in search engines, you can disable this on Facebook. You just simply have to go to the browser's “Settings” page, then tap “Privacy. In the “How people Contact you” section, find “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile?” Tap “Edit” and clear the Checkbox.

  • Control who can tag you in your profile:

If you want to approve any post you’re tagged in you can do so by going to the browser “Settings” and then tapping on “ Profile and Tagging.” In the reviewing section, turn on the option “ Review posts you’re tagged in before the post appears in your profile.”
